Business Cards: Do You Really Need Them?Do you need a business card even when you have a small home business? The answer is an emphatic YES! Just because your business is small, or you may only do it part-time, does not mean you should not have business cards like the big businesses do. You never know when or where you will come across a potential customer. You could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere with someone who may be interested in your business. Stash your cards in your wallet, baby's diaper bag, glove box, stroller, and any other place you can think of. You don't want to be without one when opportunity knocks. You will also want to give several of your business cards to each of your customers. Word of mouth is a very powerful thing - if a previous customer recommends you to someone else, it is always easiest if they can hand out one of your cards at the same time. If someone has your card, it makes it more likely for him or her to contact you. This is especially crucial for home-based businesses that are not listed in the phone book. Many stumble over what type of business card they should have. Should they have a full-color glossy complete with a photograph? Unless your business is photography, the most economical will be a one or two color business card. The price will also vary with the card color and card stock that you choose. For businesses just starting out, you can also purchase business card sheets and print them on your computer. This is ideal for small quantities, and it also allows you to make minor changes with each printing, and to even make cards with specific customers in mind. You can even add a splash of color if you have a color printer. These cards do not have the professional look that cards you have made do, but they are quick, easy, and inexpensive for those just starting out.
