Negotiating with Your Husband & Family It is a sentement with most home-based business moms - that their husbands do not support them in their business venture, or if they do, they still won't help you out to make it a success. One tactic that has been meeting with success is bartering to get what you want. This works because you get what you want, but you are also offering your husband something tempting that he wants. Negotiating can work on many levels. Would you like one evening a week where you can have three solid hours of uninterupted work time? Perhaps negotiate that you will go and sit through his boring (in your opinion) baseball game with the kids on Sunday afternoon. Are you trying to save money on groceries by serving more store brand versions of food with no pre-packaged or processed food, but you are greeted with grumbles and groans from your husband and family? Perhaps McDonald's could be a once-a-month treat if they stop the complaining. (or a delivered pizza, or a homecooked roast beef dinner). Are you trying to save gas by walking on errands? Perhaps it could be a family walking trip that starts at the local park and ends with your errands. Negotiation is key, especially when you are making changes that affect the family - by offering something seemingly tempting in return, you will have a much easier time implementing it! |
