The Importance of your own Workspace Did you know that your productivity can increase by as much as three times with your own workspace? Why is this? What many women don't realize when they are setting up their office area is that they tend to set them up where there is a great deal of distraction. This can be anything from the television set when you share space with your living room to the guilty tug of dirty dishes when you work off the kitchen. And if you set up space in your child's playroom, this is a disaster waiting to happen. Not only will you be constantly interrupted with "mom, look at this" and "mom, watch me!" but curious kids could inadvertantly delete important computer files while playing. But many families just do not have the space for a home office in their homes. There are options for these families to consider when setting up a successful workspace, where unneccessary distractions can be kept to a minimum. Consider the use of partitions. I am not talking about those carpet covered type of partitions in high-rise office buildings. I am talking about the wooden frames with decorative fabric centers. They can be easily made, and you can choose complimentary fabric to suit the room. Not only will this prevent you from seeing that pile of dirty dishes that would normally be in full view, but it can also be used as a screen to hide your mess when you are done! Does your bedroom have a walk-in closet? After a ruthless spring cleaning, many moms have transformed their walk-in closets into a compact office space. Remove the rods and unneccessary shelving, add better lighting, and you suddenly have a whole seperate room for your office that you can close the door to. Use your imagination, and you could find other unique spaces from a pantry to the mudroom, or even a basement area. Any mom who can somehow swing a seperate space for an office should do so! |
