Member Profiles as a Marketing Technique Whether you are joining the MyMommyBiz Community, iVillage or another online community on the internet, you are usually given the option to create a member profile when you join up. If you are marketing anything on the internet, be sure you create your profile. And once you create it, make sure it is updated. What should be in your profile? Most importantly, your webpage address and your email address. Could your email address be harvested by spam mailers? Possibly. But you also want your email address to be accessible by someone who read an interesting post of yours, and wanted to learn more about you and your business by dropping you an email. Same goes with any instant messenger program you use. Do you use AOL, ICQ or MSN Messenger? Add those to your profile as well. What else should you list? Are you running any specials? Does your home party business have a sign-up bonus right now? Add them in ~ anything that catches a potential customer's eye is important to add. But most importantly, be sure to keep it updated. If you are offering a Christmas special, people will think it is unprofessional if it is still listed in your profile in April. Surprisingly, (or not surprisingly, depending if you are a stats-checker) many hits will come to your site through your profile that you have listed on various online community. But the key is to then follow up with interesting and informative posts (not just ads) that would generate interest in you and would make someone want to click on your profile to read more about you. So next time you sign up for an online community, be sure to create a member profile. And now would also be a good time to check and make sure your current profiles are just that ~ current.
