Child Care Referral Service Business This can be a very successful business for someone once you achieve the right mix of both child care providers and those who need child care. This can work in several ways. You can just deal with occassional babysitters, with daycares, or with both. Essentially, someone will phone you with the need for a babysitter at a certain date and time, and you will find someone for them. You will need to screen your babysitters carefully. Many referral services go as far as needing a criminal record check for potential babysitters. You will need to check references. And hopefully, you will get your referrals of babysitters from moms who have actually used that person as opposed to "my sister's best friend's cousin wants to be a babysitter." The general rule of thumb is never use a babysitter that you feel even the tiniest bit uncomfortable with leaving your own kids with. It is usually easiest, and less complicated to charge a yearly fee for both parents and babysitters (once they have been accepted). You should also set rules such as a minimum 72 hours notice (or the time frame you choose), minimum 3 hours per babysitting session (or again, the time frame you choose). You can also charge a surcharge on babysitters needed in less than 24 hours (provided one is available). You should also be committed to getting back to a client within a certain number of hours during the day. Investing into a business line that you can then forward to a cell phone is a good idea - you could even coordinate babysitters while on holidays, and no one would be the wiser. Choose a cell phone package with great long distance rates if you travel often, or it could get pricy.
