A Hobby for a Business

Deciding what your home based business will be is crucial - you will have to eat, sleep, and breathe it, particularly when you have to set up shop in a corner of your living room or bedroom.

Many people are choosing what they love - a favorite craft or hobby. But how can you decide if your hobby will make an ideal business venture?

Is there a market for it? There may already be six other soap makers in your area - can it support a seventh?

What makes your business unique? Is your craft or hobby something that everyone can do? Rolled beeswax candles sold like hotcakes six years ago, but with beeswax sheets available in every little craft supply store, most people can make their own.

Is it a fad? If it is, will there be enough sustainable income after the trend is over?

Is it past its prime and unlikely to make a comeback? Just because a lot of the 60s and 70s are back "in" now, it doesn't necessarily mean that there is a current market for macramé or velvet paintings.

If you are just unsure, ask around, or do a search on the Internet or eBay to see if those kinds of items are selling.
