What exactly does and inventory documenter do?
You use a video camera or digital camera to take pictures of the homeowner's valuables. You then label the products with their model/serial number and price. This info is then included in a report of the inventory documents for the customer.

You may also be responsible for keeping a copy of this list and the pictures should your customer need it. You will also furnish them with a copy as well. With today's technology, you can easily transfer all this information on to a CD disc that your customer can save or also give to a family member.

Why would someone need this service?
Many homeowners face losses by fires, theft, hurricanes, tornados and the like, this service will provide them with a detailed list of losses and damages they can provide to their insurance company. When these disasters strike without warning it is impossible after the fact to get the serial numbers, models and costs of the missing items. In addition, this service helps to keep pictures of any antiques and jewelry that may not be replaceable but they will be included in your insurance check. It is also a good idea to keep a copy of your homeowners insurance on this same disc as well.

What you need: A camcorder and/or a digital camera, and a computer with a CD copier to make the disc for your customer and any copies they may also like included.

*Positive: You can start this business with low start up fees from your home office. You will also be dealing with a variety of different people, which makes it interesting.

*Negative: It can get boring taking pictures of inanimate objects but the pay off can be worth it! Another negative depending on your situation is many of your customers will most likely want to see you after hours or on the weekends.
