Making Cold Calls the Easy Way So many people are absolutely petrified when it comes to approaching a business with a sales pitch. Whether it is shyness, fear of rejection, or just plain terror, there is an easy way you can make a cold call much easier. If your business is one where it is cost effective to hand out sellers, life has just gotten much easier for you if you hate cold calls. Make up a list of all the businesses where you think your item would sell. Next, phone each business to get the specific name of the owner, manager or purchaser. Next, make up an appealing sample package for each business. This should include samples, promotional literature, pricing and ordering instructions. Then enlist a friend or hire an errand service for the day to go around delivering these sample packages to each business. Ask whoever is delivering to ask for the specific person, and if that person is not available, the name of whom the sample package is left with. Next, wait a few days, and then start phoning each business. "Hi, my name is Julia from Julia's Dog Deli. I had a sample pack of my gourmet dog treats delivered to you on Monday. I was hoping we could set up a meeting next Monday so that I can tell you more about my business or to place an order." You will not get the brush-off right away since they already know who you are (even though you have never met before), and because everyone loves to receive free stuff, whether it be pens, magnets, or organic dog treats.
