Should You Run a Contest For?
How long should you plan to
run your contest for? It is something sites struggle with. On one hand,
you do not want to have it over so fast that people who may not visit
every week will miss the entire thing. But on the other hand, a contest
that isn't being drawn for six months doesn't really give people the immediate
drive or incentive to enter right then, when they know it will still be
open when they visit five months from now.
When you look at the length
of your contest, it actually is dependent on a few different factors,
including what you plan to get out of the contest yourself.
If you plan on your contest
to really only be for your regular visitors, members or newsletter subscribers,
running it for only one month is fine. But if you are using your contest
to bring in a fresh and new audience to your site, you are best to run
it over 3 months instead, so you can get full advantage of your contest.
However long you decide to
run it for, be sure you put the contest close date on the entry page or
the contest info page. This will save you the hassle of having to answer
emails from contest entrants who want to know when it will be awarded.
