Should You Pool With Other Sites to Offer a Larger Contest Prize? Many sites will get together to offer a joint contest. This means they are all responsible for either giving money or prize donations to the contest, and then all will share in the promotional benefits as well as the promotion itself. But is this a good idea for you and your business? First, you need to look at the other potential sites. Are you all about the same size in terms of visitors? If you have the largest traffic site by far, it might be better for you to simply host the contest yourself and accept donations from the other site for the grand prize. That way you get more of the promotional benefit, especially when you begin submitting the contest information to outside sites. And if one site is much larger than others, there could also be added resentment from the one who is driving the most traffic to the contest while everyone shares the equal benefits and glory. But if you are all fairly equal in size, it will be more shared where everyone will be getting the same benefits, as well as providing the same resources. However, there are always exceptions. Perhaps there is another added benefit for you - perhaps you will get exposure in a new yet related market you haven't cracked yet. Or perhaps it is a best friend's site that you wish to help out. Only you will be able to decide if you should join with other sites to do a joint contest. Weigh the pros and cons before you make your decision, and it will help avoid hard feelings or resentment by you or one of the other parner sites. |
