Marketing Your Business With "You" Many people don't realize how powerful writing ad copy, bios or other business related material in the second person can be. (Second person is using "you" instead of "I", "he" or "she". While it can seem awkward to write in the beginning, the benefits can far outweigh the time it takes to get used to the writing style. It brings a fresh look to the usual copy. The main benefit of using "you" is that the use of "you" makes the reader apply it to his or her life. And as a business, you are showing the reader what it is you do, or what your business or service does. For example, here is a sample ad copy that does not utilize "you". "Lisa cooks healthy gourmet meals for families with limited time, in her client's kitchens, and even cleans up the mess before she leaves". This ad copy is boring, dry and stale, everything a personal chef does not want associated with her business. Now, here is a similar ad copy, but written utilizing "you" instead of the third person. "If you have limited time to cook your meals, and find that you are not eating healthy enough, imagine how you could eat when a personal chef swoops into your kitchen and prepares to weeks of healthy gourmet meals for your - then leaves your kitchen sparkling clean at the end of the day." That ad copy makes the reader imagine the personal chef in her own lifestyle, and even in her own kitchen. By utilizing "you", your ad copy can work wonders, and place your targeted audience right into your marketing and advertising.
