Why are you holding your contest?
While it can often be answered simply by saying it is for the publicity,
it actually goes much further beyond simply publicity. So you should consider
why you are holding the contest, and plan your contest accordingly to
get those full benefits.
Are you holding your contest
simply as a thank you for your regular members, visitors or newsletter
subscribers?
Are you looking to drive new
traffic to your site?
Is your contest related to
a specific market area of your target market, and you are looking to specifically
drive that traffic to your site?
When you consider why you are
holding your contest, you can think about what you want to get out of
it, and then use that information to target your contest marketing efforts
as well. If it is something for primarily your current members, you should
limit your marketing efforts to those people. But if you are looking to
draw new visitors, you should expand you marketing efforts when you promote
your contest, so you can attract them to your site and get them to enter
for your contest.
