Catalog Parties Sometimes it is best to have a catalog party rather than lose the potential sales all together. For whatever reason, some hostesses are just more comfortable doing a catalog party, where they can share the catalog with family and friends. Common reasons catalog parties are popular is that they don't have to invite people into their homes (although some reps offer to hold parties in their own homes) or if they have recently held another home party for another company, they don't want to feel they are pressuring the same group of people into buying more products. Others have family commitments (such as six children under the age of 5) that can make planning a home party a challenge. And still others know they can hit up co-workers that they would not otherwise want to invite into their own homes. When you are doing a catalog party (also known as a book party) remind your hostess ask those purchasing products if they too would like to book a party (either a catalog party or a home party). Stress the advantages to her (in free product or other bonuses) of others signing on to hold their own party. Be sure to follow up while the catalog show is in progress. Does she need more catalogs or order forms? Does anyone have any questions about the products, hosting a show or becoming a representative of the business? Offer to contact the person directly - this will not only save your hostess legwork, but it will also put you into direct contact with the customer and a potential hostess or recruit. If your company allows it, and you have the time, consider dropping off the orders directly to the customers, rather than having your hostess do it. This will also get you in direct contact with each customer, and give you the opportunity of a face-to-face meeting about becoming a hostess or a consultant. |
