How Often Should You Submit to Search Engines? After you submit your site to the search engines for the first time, there is no reason why you should have to submit it again. In fact, some search engine professionals believe that submitting multiple times over a short period of time, or submitting your URLs on a weekly or monthly basis - when your site and pages are already in the index - can actually hurt your rankings. With some engines, including the most important search engines Google, Yahoo & MSN, will index your site even if you don't manually submit your site, simply by following a link to your site that is already found in the index. And many say it is much quicker to get indexed through backlinks (which also helps your link popularity, a crucial aspect of ranking in the search engines) than it is by using the search engine submission. For example, this site was never submitted to any of the search engines, and it ranks very well in Google, Yahoo and MSN. I personally never submit to any search engine, but let the links to it for me. If you still wish to submit you site to the search engines manually, do so only once, and use the official "submit URL" options suggested by the search engines. You should never pay for search engine submission. Submit to Google Remember to follow the guidelines listed before submitting. When you submit your site to a search engine, you only need to include your main index page. The spider/robot will automatically find all the links within the pages and index your whole site. This is the case whether your site is 10 pages or 1000+ pages. If you are unsure whether the search engines can find all your links properly, or would just like to double check for re-assurance, we have two free tools that can help you. The Link Extractor will extract all links on your page. And the Search Engine Spider Simulator will show you exactly what the search engines see, including all the links it would naturally follow. |
