Are Pop-Up Ads Dangerous or Just Annoying? Pop-up ads can definitely be annoying for surfers, especially for those who did not have on a pop-up blocker installed on their computer. but are they really dangerous? Sometimes it's a matter of opinion, will other times they clearly are dangerous. Pop-up ads that are advertising something within the web site you are visiting, such as to sign up for newsletter or join a message boards, are nothing more than annoying. On the other side, there are those pop-ups which are clearly designed to fool the surfer into thinking they need to perform specific tasks to keep the computer safe. This could include those that insinuate your computer has been hacked, or those pop-up ploys that want you to download - however declining the download will do nothing, it will repeatedly ask you to download until you either agree or pull the plug of your computer. the most malicious are the ones that are associated with spy ware or ad where that is installed at your computer. These pop-ups will appear regardless of whether you are surfing on the Internet are not, and many of them will be clearly inappropriate for a family audience. So what can you do? Install a pop-up blocker to prevent most web site pop-ups from appearing. And if the source of the pop-ups espy where, you'll need to use a removal tool in order to cease the pop-ups from appearing. As you can see, not all pop-ups are created equal. Some are harmless, some you may even find useful, while some are clearly popping up with malicious intent. |
