Don't Isolate Yourself as a Telecommuter For many of us working from home is the best arrangements for our families but don't fall into the trap of isolating yourself from the outside world! It can happen very easily since you now don't leave your driveway to report to work. So what can you do to help those blues? First, take a shower in the morning and get dressed! As tempting as it might be, don't hang out in your pajamas all day. This does affect your productivity, although you may not even be aware of it. You can buy some comfy tank tops and loungewear, but not your pajamas. You also don't want your significant other coming home and saying, "your STILL in your pajamas?" Make sure to keep in contact with your friends. You still need to have a life separately from your home and work or you can simply lose touch with the outside world. Make lunch and play dates. Many telecommuting jobs let you pick and chose your hours, be sure to take a day that you can make a date for yourself and get out of the house. Take a 15-minute break and go for a walk around the block. I have had a few weeks that I can't remember having left the house. I was so wrapped up in working, the house and the kids I forgot to leave the house. This can cause frustration and depression to say the least. You may not have noticed it before, but leaving the house to go to a traditional job also means your mind is off your bills, laundry, kids and messes to clean. Telecommuting means you are often dealing with it day after day all in one shot; this will drive anyone crazy some days! Let in the sunshine girlfriend! |
