Do You
Get to Set Your Own Telecommuting Hours?
The reason why many people
prefer a telecommuting job is because they are often flexible and allow
you to work when and where you want. But will you really get to set your
own work hours if you telecommute? It depends.
Some jobs allow you the flexibility
to put in your required hours within a specific 24 hour period, whether
it be at 8am, 2pm or midnight. Others will require you to log a specific
number of hours over a 7 day period, granting you the flexibility to put
in two 12 hour days if you are required for 24 hours work in a week.
However, some jobs will not
give you this same kind of flexibility. For instance, if you are needed
for three four hour sessions a week, they may specify exactly which four
hours you can work.
And in some jobs, particularly
transcription or coding types of jobs, you may only get hours as they
are available. If you login, you might find there is a job available you
can do... but you must sit and do it right then, you cannot book it and
do it hours or days later. And unfortunately, with these types of jobs,
there are often others ready and waiting to take those "shifts."
If you need flexinility of
hours when you are looking for a telecommuting job, it is important that
you do check and see if the jobs allows you to do this.
