What
is a Dedicated Server?
A dedicated server means that
the entire server is reserved exclusively for your own use. You will not
be sharing the server space with any other sites or accounts, other than
the ones you add yourself. If you do not need the entire server for yourself
(or the price tag that comes along with it) you are best to select a virtual
hosting account.
With a dedicated server, bandwidth
is no longer an issue (which can be a problem with sites utilizing many
downloads for visitors) and you are only restricted to the size of the
actual server itself, not to a certain size which is normally allocated
to a virtual hosting account.
With a dedicated server, many
hosts offer both managed server plans and unmanaged server plans. If you
don't know what you are doing, a managed server is the best choice, although
it is the costliest.
With an unmanaged dedicated
server, you have to keep track of updates and patches for your server.
Failure to do so could result in hackers gaining access to your server.
