Do
I Need CGI for my hosting account?
CGI, which stands for Common
Gateway Interface, is a common way that sites use scripts. It interacts
between the visitor to the site and the server, so certain features of
a site can be used.
CGI is often used for forms,
guestbooks, web counters, calendars, search abilities and many other fuctions.
Some webhosts come with a variety of cgi scripts pre-installed, or with
the ability to be installed with minimum technical requirements.
You can also find cgi scripts
at many of the scripting resource sites available online.
CGI is very useful to have
included in your hosting account. Most hosting accounts now come with
CGI available, but you may need to request it specifically. Usually, all
cgi scripts are placed within a special cgi-bin file in your website directory
ie. www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/ You may need to create the folder directory
yourself, but some hosts will add it for you.
