Do
hosting companies keep backups of my site?
Most web hosts keep a daily
backup of websites, incase disaster strikes. If you lose both your local
website's files (the ones located on your own computer) at the same time
your website's files have been lost, ensure you contact your host immediately.
Some hosts only keep one day's
worth of backups, while others keep a week or more on file before overwriting
them with newer backups.
If your host loses your site
for whatever reason, when the host has backup copies, they can seemlessly
upload the latest backup with all your files to the website, saving you
the time and hassle of having to manually upload your entire site after
a server crash.
If you fear this scenario,
ensure that your host does indeed take daily backups from the server.
Some of the most inexpensive hosts may not take daily backups, as a cutting-corner
measure to be able to provide such cheap hosting.
