Should I Allow My Host to Register My Domain Name?

It is always a good idea to register your domain name yourself, rather than allowing a third party (such as your web designer or web hosting company) to register it for you. Some unscrupulous hosts will actually register your domain name in their own name, rather than yours. If you decide to switch hosts at a later date, they will own your domain name! If it is registered in their name, you will have no claim to it, since it is legally registered to them.
