An
Office Baby: Working When Your Littlest is a Babe in Arms
Most new moms-to-be have
a delusional fantasy about all the work they will be able to get done
once their baby is born. But when reality sets in with a baby who
never sleeps more than two hours in a row, running a home business
with a baby becomes a unique challenge.
Set up a safe place for
your baby to sleep in your office, whether it is an extra crib, a
playpen or a cradle. You can easily settle your little one down for
a nap while still keeping a direct eye on her, enabling you to get
work done.
If you are working at your
computer, you can settle your baby into one of the many styles of
front carriers. She will get the closeness to mom that she needs in
a permanent cuddle, but you can also sit down and answer email, surf
the net, or get some typing done.
You will also want a safe
place for your baby to be once she gets mobile. There are many unsafe
but very tempting items in your office to little hands (and mouths!),
and you will not want them to have easy accessibility to all the dangers
in your office. A playpen with toys works great or designate a certain
area in the corner of your office, and use folding baby gates to secure
it.
As your baby gets older,
consider setting up a special office
just for her.
